There are no seven wonders in the eyes of a child there are seven million. Capturing the wonder of a child is simply a happy task. There were a lot of candid shots in the book apart from the planned shots. The pictures were taken from all over the world – from Canada to Mongolia. The ethnicity of the children may be different but they all had that one thing in common – they were children who really didn’t know or care about the evil ways of the world. They are just happy without a reason and this was captured beautifully by the photographer – Debra.
I’m no expert in photography, but I loved what I was looking at. All the shots seem to be just perfect with the right color, depth, placement and feel. Being from the Asian subcontinent, I always wondered about the children from the other part of the planet. The book taught me one thing, no matter which part of the world it is, children will be children. The innocence of a child is simply the same all over the world. All the photos in the book seem to be a proof of that.
The highlight of the book would be absence of a write up before each picture. The picture told its story; the photographer didn’t actually need to give one of her own. Penning a plethora of childhood emotions is a herculean task, so why pen it down at all. All you need to do is simply capture is via a photograph. That is exactly what Debra did. I spent a good 5 minutes pondering over each photograph, listening to the thousand words that each of them spoke. Of course, I did wonder if my thought process actually matched with that of the photographer when she clicked the photographs.
MY SAY: A book to cherish and be in awe with. This book to me served as a reminder of what I had lost long ago – My childhood. Made me wish I were still a child.
