Art dealer, singers, Paris, London and a game – an explosive recipe for a perfect thriller isn’t it? This book had all the ingredients of that recipe, of course, the end product wasn’t perfect, but then, the concept of perfection is based on one’s perception of perfection.
Art dealer Marc relocated to London along with his girlfriend Sera to start a fresh life as a musician. Things take a dramatic turn when he is forced to go back to Paris, leaving Sera all alone in London. Sera discovers the “womanizer side” of Marc which ultimately leads to an emotional conflict in her. With a spies from past hot on her trail the lovers are forced into a high stakes game of cat and mouse.
One thing I totally loved about the story is element of reality. Surviving in a country without knowing the local language isn’t really easy. To top it all, prejudices against the home language in the new country adds misery. Sera’s struggle in adapting in London is so realistic. The plot as such was quite predictable to a certain point but the writer threw in one twist which ended up changing that element of predictability. I felt I should have read the previous books as certain parts of the story needed knowledge of characters that I lost out by not reading the series from the start. In spite of this, I was able to read the book as a standalone. Moreover, the writer must have actually established the characters already in the previous books, thus the characterization in this book didn’t really have that depth that a fresh book would have. Originality would be high light of this book. The story was quite original and unique and didn’t really have the usual clichés associated with Art based books. The usage a lot of French words irked me in the beginning but I took it as a challenge to Google them. Learning a new language is always fun!
