HOW I GOT THIS BOOK: Review copy as a part of iRead Book tours in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
Smart, sharp, bold and a bootlegger is a description that most women can’t imagine being known has. The exception to it being Kathryn Kelly aka Machine gun Kelly.
The first line of the summary had me hooked totally – a career in crime. Being from the other part of the world and from a different generation, I was simply awestruck by this biography. Kathryn Kelly, born into a poor family went on to being a bootlegger and moved on to commit serious crimes like kidnapping. She also “motivated” her husband to orchestrate these heinous crimes. She manipulates the media which simply ends up blowing up her husband’s flagrant image. She is always one step ahead of the law, but eventually it catches up with her. However, she is confident of not being convicted. Eventually they are convicted.
The excerpts and the photographs were the highlight of the book. The writer focused appropriately on the traits and character of Kelly. It was an absolute pleasure reading what made Kelly tick – her motivation and intelligence. I’m not really a history buff, but the life of a woman who was so daring simply is irresistible. Kathryn’s life was nothing short of being a Mario Puzo-ish story.
MY SAY: A must read book even if you are not a history buff.
